Why does frank miller hates superman

He tells Bruce to stop being a superhero because Clark knows best. Despite Bruce inspiring order in Gotham, Clark obeys the law to the letter. And anyone who doesn't obey the law is punished severely until they do, like Green Arrow, who lost an arm thanks to Miller's Clark. That isn't a person who seeks to inspire greatness -- it's someone determined to mete out punishment. Miller's take on Superman gets worse in his later stories. In Miller and Jim Lee's All-Star Batman and Robin , Batman is especially deranged, but Clark comes across as a clueless authority figure who, at the first sign of Bruce acting out of line, simply moves to stop him, no questions asked.

Ultimately, Miller writes Superman as a cop, the ultimate officer of the law. In Superman: Year One , Miller writes the same way he wrote Superman in his Batman stories, as a figure almost entirely defined by the law in opposition to Batman.

While Frank Miller's work on Daredevil and Batman is unparalleled, he doesn't seem to understand the inspirational core of Superman's character. It's probably a good thing his Superman exists in its own alternate universe, because it's hard to imagine his Superman believes in truth and justice more than law and order.

Lifelong lover of comics, anime, and weird films. Loves different varieties of coffee. They actually seem like friends. So what's Frank's deal? Is he just re-writing Batman, working him into his vision of what he thinks Batman should be like?

Making him a character that should haunt Sin City, not Gotham? TruerToTheCore Registered. Joined: Apr 27, Messages: 2, Likes Received: 0. Perhaps Superman is too "clean" for him or something like that. Joined: Feb 21, Messages: 36, Likes Received: 2, Well, he always seemed to like Hal Jordan. I've always known, but ASBR just pushed it over the edge.

Joined: Nov 18, Messages: Likes Received: 0. I remember one of his interview in wich he described psychologically the two, completely different. Hence putting them at odds.

Can anyone post it, please? I don't remember where it is. I agree. They are very different people. But every chance Miller gets, he puts this really strong animosity between them, especially coming from Batman. Who's smarter is up for debate, I suppose. But to dimish Kal's otherworldly knowledge just seems juvenile.

It's like, in Miller's world, Batman is the nerdy little kid in eighth grade who picks on the jock from behind his back. Superman is - of course - more intelligent than Batman, The authentic Superman that is. Miller got his start in comics in the late s, when he was in his early 20s, after his dad helped him move to New York City to chase his dream of making it as a comic-book illustrator.

Eager to get started, he made three calls: one each to DC and Marvel, and a third to his hero: Neal Adams , whose Batman and Green Lantern comics had made him a superstar.

Adams credits his daughter with his decision to give Miller a chance. Many artists were so humiliated by the harsh feedback Adams gave that they never came back — not Miller. Nobody advanced that quickly. And I made it hard for him!

That was the bad part. Adams blames the traditional trappings of fame — bad influences and alcohol. I am not making excuses for Frank Miller i am just understand where he is coming from yes to me its a BS interpretation but i understand don't put words in my mouth has if i support Frank , i don't just want to understand where he is coming from that is all.

And how was Superman being written at the time? I don't see how it was any different from the Batman's books. No, he doesn't hate Superman. It's not like he did to Superman what Quesada did to Spidey.

No, he didn't voluntarily slaughtered the Man of Steel's character. Miller is, however, Batman's whore and therefore he is apathetic to the damage he does to other characters by being Batman's professional sexual slave.

It's an alternate reality which means he can do whatever he wants with the characters. So I wouldn't take his portrayal of superman to heart, no one should. He made Superman apart of the government for the Batman's stories needs, not because he hates the character. Frank Miller says "The most questionable thing I did was make Superman a government agent. If this had been a Superman story, I'd never have done that - and I know that, because I have a Superman story I want to tell someday. In this story, Batman was the hero, so the world was built around him.

Frank Miller is honestly one of the few writers I hate as a person. Read the script of Allstars batman 1 and see how he describes a half naked Vicky vale to Jim Lee.

Or any of his rants on Islam or Women or Liberals. Don't think so The thing that pisses me off more is the overall influence of TDKR. From Justice Gods to Injustice, a lot of subsequent writers portray Supes as the corruptible being that Batman can take down should he wished it to be. It's pathetic and the ignorant fans who flock to wank Batman's junk because of these stories ruin Superman even more.

Except in Injustice Batman couldn't take down Superman.
