Marine Corps Reserve. Total military service obligation is eight years, at least four of which must be active duty.

Pays for uniforms and instructional fees for naval science courses. College program students selected for "advanced standing" receive a stipend for maximum of 20 months. Advance standing is only available starting the junior year of college. Students will complete naval science and other university courses, a few specific university courses and attend one summer training session.

Two-year applicants apply before spring of sophomore year. On graduation, two- and four-year College Program midshipmen may be commissioned ensigns in the Naval Reserve or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Obligation of eight years of commissioned service, at least three of which must be active duty. If selected for scholarship, selectee must major in a nursing degree program leading to BSN. Program focused on students majoring in specific technical fields. Depending on the MECEP board and OCS class a Marine applies for and attends determines when to apply to the university as the university has a strict application timeline. Admission into the university is very competitive and it is encouraged to thoroughly review the application before submitting it.

Marines applying to the university are responsible for their own application submission. The Marine Corps and NROTC have to oversite or impact on the admissions process and applicants will compete for admission to the university along with other applicants. Applicants are encouraged to contact the AMOI during and throughout the application process.

The Navy is looking for individuals who have a desire to serve and develop themselves mentally, morally, and physically while in a rigorous academic environment. Marine Options do not. Super-scoring tests means that the highest achievement from multiple attempts will be recorded.

For example, if your scores for your first attempt at the SAT are Verbal and Math, and your second attempt scores are Verbal and Math, the Navy will view your overall score as Verbal and Math.

Please note these test scores are the minimum requirement and you should seek to surpass them in order to be competitive for the scholarship. JROTC may offer some familiarity with items such as military rank structure and drill, but there is no competitive edge to participating in JROTC over other high school extracurricular activities.

Midshipmen who do not participate in JROTC and those who do will be treated the same upon entry to the program. NROTC allows non-scholarship midshipmen to join as college programmers.

At UNC you will participate alongside scholarship midshipmen in all battalion activities and compete for a 3-year, 2-year, 1-year, or advanced standing scholarship. The Navy will not cover the cost of tuition but will provide a monthly stipend. The midshipman is guaranteed a commission following their graduation and successful completion of the NROTC program.

You must receive a scholarship by the beginning of your junior year in order to remain a part of the program. If you are deferred, waitlisted, or denied from UNC we are unable to help with University admission and you should speak with the appropriate Navy detailer to reassign your scholarship to a school you have been accepted to. All necessary uniforms and training equipment will be issued to midshipmen at New Student Indoctrination NSI or when they arrive at their respective units. Midshipmen may choose to purchase items beyond the basic uniform components at their own expense.

Items such as shoe polish, iron and ironing board, and hair styling products will need to be purchased by the individual. Navy-option midshipmen have the opportunity to rank their preference for warfare community assignment during the summer before their senior year.

However, preference is second to needs of the Navy. Many of the warfare communities are competitive and midshipmen must work hard to achieve a high ranking to make themselves competitive for these communities. As you can see, there are different standards and criteria in order to win a scholarship. The primary type of ROTC scholarship is the four-year tuition scholarship program. These are awarded to high school seniors on the basis of a national competition, and each year more than 4, winners are selected from about 25, applicants.

Recipients of four-year Army, Air Force, and Naval ROTC scholarships for college may attend either a host college or an approved cross-enrollment college. A smart strategy is to apply to more than one participating school, as you may not be accepted at your first choice.
